Chaplain
Sarah Heslop
Revd Sarah is the chaplain at St John’s College, and it is her privilege to be available to all connected with the College, of all faith backgrounds, to offer a listening ear and a non-judgmental space to explore questions of life. She facilitates College worship and spaces where our community can come together, whether they be undergraduates, postgraduates, here for ministerial training, staff, or connected with the college in some other way.
Alongside her work as chaplain here, Sarah is undertaking doctoral research into the relationships between churches and non-church schools, a subject which she cares passionately about.
Sarah studied History at the University of Oxford before working as a teacher in London, Leipzig (Germany), and Cambridge. She has been closely involved in church and community life in and around Durham for many years and, after ordination, worked in a group of churches near Durham before moving to St John’s.
