Resident Tutor
Magdalena Stanilova
As a resident tutor, Magdalena helps foster a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment in St John’s College, working alongside an exceptional team of friendly, kind and empathetic people. One of the aspects she enjoys most about the role is organising the College’s Christmas decoration events, bringing the community together during what is undoubtedly the most wonderful time of the year.
As a PhD student in the Department of Classics, her research explores concepts of the immortality of the soul across the Mediterranean region, with particular attention to the peripheral regions of the Greek world. Focusing on the period between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE, he work examines sources such as the Orphic gold tablets and the Derveni Papyrus, with the aim of situating the figure of Orpheus within a broader tradition of eschatological thought and religious practice.
