Chapel Choir
The Chapel Choir of St John’s College is at the heart of music-making at Durham. As the University’s only professionally led chapel choir, it plays a central role in College life, singing weekly Choral Evensong in the 12th-century Chapel of St Mary the Less and performing at College occasions, in cathedrals, and on its annual summer tour.
About the Chapel Choir
The Choir performs a wide range of repertoire to a high standard, enriching both its members and the wider College community. It includes sixteen Choral Scholars and two Organ Scholars, appointed annually from across the University. Under the direction of the Director of Music, scholars receive professional guidance, rehearsal and practice opportunities, and the chance to perform in prestigious venues locally, nationally, and abroad.
Weekly commitments typically include rehearsals on Monday evenings and before Wednesday Evensong, along with recordings and special events throughout the year.
Auditions take place in person at the start of term.
