Josh Cockayne
As Academic Dean, Revd Dr Josh has responsibility for the academic teaching and research at Cranmer Hall, and with our team of tutors and associate tutors, he oversees the development of our teaching programmes. He is also the co-director of the field leading Doctorate in Theology and Ministry, delivered in partnership with the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University.
Josh directs the Bede Centre; a research centre aimed at engaging theologically with the practice of starting new churches. He is passionate about theological research which encourages a deeper understanding of practice.
As secretary of the college’s research committee, Josh helps to shape the research life of St John’s and its engagement with the world, through its internationally engaged research centres and outstanding community of fellows.
Josh studied Philosophy at the University of York, where he also completed a doctorate on Christian spirituality in the work of the Danish theologian, Søren Kierkegaard. He was ordained in the Scottish Episcopal Church in 2020 and has served in a number of academic and ministerial roles in the past decade. Josh’s work is widely published in a number of academic monographs, edited volumes, and journal articles.
